Another checkoff on my bucket list

We wore a full set of gear on grad day.
I applied to and was accepted into the Scottsdale Fire Department's Citizens Academy, a program that provided a very personal experience with Scottsdale’s Fire Department and all that they do for the community. It definitely exposed me to and increased m awareness to all areas of the Scottsdale Fire Department and its mission of caring for citizens and visitors within an all-hazards environment.

The program took place on Wednesday evenings over six consecutive weeks. Graduation was on a Saturday and included a skills demonstration where I was able to work together with firefighters to really get an idea of the work that is done in operations, emergency medical response and special operations.

Classes were held at the Fire Department’s headquarters, the city's Hontz Training Facility and at various fire stations. My favorite was going out to the airport to see the city's fire truck there spray foam and water.
